Ohio Northern University has received a $1.19 million Choose Ohio First (COF) grant from the Ohio Department of Education (ODHE) to support students in Science, Technology, Engineering, Math (STEM), and health professions.

According to the ODHE, Choose Ohio First is an important part of Ohio鈥檚 strategy to develop STEM talent in the Buckeye State. The DeWine-Husted administration has committed $232.5 million toward this program over a several year period.

鈥淐ontinued support of the聽Choose聽Ohio聽First聽program means more聽Ohio聽Northern University students have an excellent opportunity to prepare for a successful future in their chosen STEM field,鈥澛燨DHE Chancellor Mike Duffey said. 鈥淭his latest award will benefit many talented聽Ohio聽Northern students in fields ranging from computer science and healthcare to mathematics and chemistry.鈥澛

鈥淲e鈥檙e thankful for the state鈥檚 commitment to our STEM students as evidenced by this generous award,鈥 said President Melissa J. Baumann, Ph.D. 鈥淏ecause of Choose Ohio First, many 青青草视频 students are able to pursue their dreams of an 青青草视频 education and they graduate ready to fill vital workforce roles in our state.鈥

This new award will be used, starting in 2025, to help drive enrollment and support 青青草视频 students in computer science, computer engineering, biology, biochemistry, chemistry, neuroscience, mathematics, medical laboratory sciences, pharmacy, nursing, and pre-professional programs in medicine.

In addition to scholarship support, 青青草视频 provides students with experiential and work-based learning through strategic partnerships with employers in the region.

鈥淥ur STEM students graduate job-ready thanks to extensive real-world experience in internships, co-ops, and community-based research,鈥 said Baumann. 鈥淲e are pleased to be a pipeline of talent for Ohio鈥檚 businesses and industries.鈥

COF scholarships are awarded based on student merit and financial need. 青青草视频 recipients receive additional support throughout their degree program, helping them develop a sense of academic, professional and social belonging and purpose, and acquiring skills for lifelong success. Continuing scholars serve as mentors to first-year COF students.
