Click  for a preliminary list of all the courses we anticipate offering this summer. Both in-person and online courses are offered in the summer.  Courses that normally run online will be marked with a Building as "Online". If the course is marked synchronous online in ÇàÇà²ÝÊÓƵ’s course offerings list, that course will meet during the time noted. If the course is marked as asynchronous online in the course offerings list, there will be no mandatory class meeting times. Other courses will meet in person on ÇàÇà²ÝÊÓƵ's campus, and these will list a physical building and room number for the course. On-campus housing will be available for those taking face-to-face courses. 

Summer School course offerings can also be viewed under the . Click on Browse Classes and select 2025-26 Summer Semester and click continue. A search window will open. You can search by subject or click on Advanced Search at the bottom. In The Search Criteria click on Part of Term and scroll through the dropdown to select Summer First Session or Summer Second Session then click search. This will list all of the courses for that term. 

For Summer School 2025-26, all students will be charged $600 per credit hour (see tuition and fees).

To receive student or parent loans for the summer term, the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) must be submitted and received by the ÇàÇà²ÝÊÓƵ Office of Financial Aid. Undergraduate students must be enrolled for a minimum of six hours at Ohio Northern University to be eligible for federal student loans. Contact a financial aid advisor with specific questions at financial-aid@onu.edu.

Summer courses are offered as either first-term, second-term, or all term courses. All term courses run the full summer term. First term courses run the first five weeks of the summer. Second term courses run the last five weeks of the semester. See the semester calendar for the Summer term class dates. 

See the semester calendar for the last date to drop a summer course. If a student drops AFTER the last day to drop date, a W for withdrawal will be shown on the transcript and there will be no refund.

For 2026, all students will be charged $600 per credit hour (see tuition and fees).  The Spring bill will contain the J-term course fee. The Spring semester bill should be on a payment plan or paid in full before the payment deadline. Contact the Bursar's office to pay your bill or make other arrangements.

Because J-term is optional, a student’s financial aid typically will be based on the traditional spring semester coursework only. Contact a financial aid advisor with specific questions at financial-aid@onu.edu.

For 3-credit courses, J-term courses will be scheduled 12 days, 3-hours per day plus 1 day for finals. Students will be completing the coursework for one 3- credit hour course in these 12 days, instead of the typical 15 weeks. There are a few 2-credit and 1- credit courses running as well. If the course is marked synchronous online in ÇàÇà²ÝÊÓƵ’s course offerings list, that course will meet during the time noted. If the course is marked as asynchronous online in the course offerings list, there will be no mandatory class meeting times.

ÇàÇà²ÝÊÓƵ is offering a few 4-credit hour courses in J-term 2024. These courses will start a week earlier than the 3-credit hour courses. 

While both in-person and online classes can be offered in the January term, courses are typically offered as distance learning in an online delivery format. 

Current ÇàÇà²ÝÊÓƵ students taking an in-person class and wanting to live on campus for J-term, you will need approval from Residence Life staff. Contact reslife@onu.edu for more information. Please note that dining service will not be open during J-term.

Current Ohio Northern Students should utilize the Summer School and J-Term resources at .

If you study in the U.S. under an F-1 visa and attend another college or university but would like to take classes at Ohio Northern that will transfer back to your home institution, ÇàÇà²ÝÊÓƵ welcomes you to apply as an international non-degree visiting student. The non-degree visiting application is appropriate since you will only attend ÇàÇà²ÝÊÓƵ for a short time, the summer semester or J-Term. Questions regarding summer school, J-Term and/or visas should be directed to the Office of International Admissions at int-adm@onu.edu. If you are financially sponsored by your government or another corporation, please make sure you are permitted to enroll in distance delivery instruction.

Submit a free online application by selecting . Make sure to indicate that you are applying as an international non-degree-seeking student. Once your registration is received the Office of International Admission will contact you with next steps. 

If you attend another college or university and would like to take classes that will transfer back to your home institution, apply as a visiting student at Ohio Northern University. A visiting student is often called a transient student, since you will only attend ÇàÇà²ÝÊÓƵ for a short time.

REGISTRATION STEPS FOR VISITING/TRANSIENT STUDENTS

STEP 1: APPLY TO ÇàÇà²ÝÊÓƵ

Submit a free online application by selecting visiting/transient application.  Make sure to indicate that you are applying as a transient student.

STEP 2: SEND YOUR UNIVERSITY’S TRANSIENT PERMISSION FORM TO ÇàÇà²ÝÊÓƵ

Once you know which courses you want to take at ÇàÇà²ÝÊÓƵ, obtain a Transient Permission Form or letter of permission from the university in which you currently attend. (If your school does not have a Transient Permission Form, please use .)  Your advisor or the registrar’s office will be able to assist you with this form, which must list the ÇàÇà²ÝÊÓƵ courses you are permitted to take and contain your institution’s signature of approval. You can email the completed transient permission form to ÇàÇà²ÝÊÓƵ’s Office of the Registrar at registrar@onu.edu. The transient permission form will ensure that once you have successfully completed the course(s) at Ohio Northern University, your home institution will accept them.

STEP 3: REGISTER FOR CLASSES

After you are accepted to attend ÇàÇà²ÝÊÓƵ, the Office of Admissions will send an email with your acceptance to the email address you provided in your application and directions on how to set up your ÇàÇà²ÝÊÓƵ email account. Also, once you are admitted, ÇàÇà²ÝÊÓƵ will register you for the classes you indicated on your Transient Permission Form. A confirmation of your course registration will be sent to your ÇàÇà²ÝÊÓƵ email address. Registration questions should be directed to Wilson Turner, university registrar, at w-turner.2@onu.edu.

STEP 4: PAY TUITION AND FEES

Your registration is not complete until you pay your tuition and fees. There is a payment deadline for each term. Pay your bill or make other arrangements with the bursar’s office before the payment deadline.

STEP 5: SEND YOUR TRANSCRIPT TO YOUR HOME SCHOOL

At the end of the semester, please request to have your grades sent to your home college or university. Transcripts can be requested at the . You will need your ÇàÇà²ÝÊÓƵ ID number when placing the order.

HOUSING FOR VISITING/TRANSIENT STUDENTS

Housing is not available for visiting/transient students during J-term. 

ÇàÇà²ÝÊÓƵing/transient students that are taking in person courses during summer term can apply for housing. Dining service meal plans will not be available. Once you are accepted to take a summer class you will receive an email to your ÇàÇà²ÝÊÓƵ account from Residence Life instructing you to fill out a housing application. Additionally, you will need your ÇàÇà²ÝÊÓƵ ID card to conduct business on campus. You can get your picture taken and have your card printed at the Department of Public Safety after you have registered for courses and arrive on ÇàÇà²ÝÊÓƵ's campus.
